Laura and Berwyn (Bez to his friends) are a couple based in England. Laura was born in the West Midlands, Berwyn is proudly from North Wales! They met while studying acting at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts in 2017 and have been together ever since! Both had taught on and off since their teenage years, but decided to formally start careers as English teachers in 2020. Laura and Bez both completed TEFL certifications and started teaching 1-to-1 English (and Welsh!) lessons online. Laura had previously tried YouTube in the past but had never really found anything that she was truly passionate about. Once Laura and Bez entered the English language teaching world, she realised that she could use her video making skills and her teaching ability to start a Youtube channel that teaches English in a way that is fun, light-hearted and practical! The first videos were published to the 'Smashing English' YouTube channel in the Summer of 2020. Since then, the channel has amassed over 520,000 subscribers and over 17 million views. Berwyn took on the producer role, taking on a huge amount of the organisation and running of the channel, expanding Smashing English to wider projects such as email and video courses. Together, their skills mean that they work quite harmoniously together, running 'Smashing English' whilst also teaching 1-to-1 lessons every week. (They have taught over 12,000 lessons between them!) They love thinking of new ways to make the English language accessible, fun and hopefully not intimidating!
